The 4800 Watt Table

A coffee table with a base made from repurposed 400 watt street lamps by Upupa Studio. The street lamp has got its second life in the tea table design. Upupa Studio artists took advantage of perfection of the form, transparent glass and artful combination of spirals to create the elegant and light object and to keep its solidity.

Persian Explosion by Studio Mango

The Persian carpet gets an update from Studio Mango in an explosion of colour. Traditional motifs are blown up so that the result is like looking at part of a carpet under a microscope. You’ll spot  Studio Mango founders Frank Hanssen & Paul Hendrikx relaxing on their creation below!
Despite the great heritage behind the traditional rugs, Studio Mango recognized that they were losing appeal with a younger demographic and approached tradition from a new angle. Umbra will be producing the carpet for its 2010 collection.

Kinetic Light Box Sculpture

From @Sebastian_Rohr, a kinetic sculpture & light made of rice paper, “although fragile, Rice paper will last 1000 years (barring any fire), is immune to damp and moths, so weirdly the rice paper will outlast the mild steel that hold the work together. The light is fluorescent, so the lamp is very energy efficient.”

Roughly Drawn Chair – V&A Design Award

The RD (Roughly Drawn) Legs Limited Edition chairs are hand woven from 100% recycled molten plastic waste. Building on the early experimental plastic processes developed by Richard, the design uses no glues or additional fixings in its production.
All we add is heat and skill.”

The RD Chair has been widely recognized as one of the major iconic eco products of the decade and was short listed in the category of innovation in the House and Garden Classic design awards at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.

These are the final RD chairs produced by Richard as he’ll be hanging up the process soon to concentrate on new work for Cohda.

Clockwork Love – Tjep

Inspired by the earlier Bling Bling medallion, Tjep layers the wheels and gears of clockwork to form the hearts that make up a new series of pendants and timepieces. Other symbolic elements include wings and flames, all part and parcel of the
complicated mechanism of emotion. Clockwork Love is an expression of wishful thinking, but we all know love
never runs on time.

Attention to detail was a common theme in works presented in the Ceramics and Architecture exhibition in Eindhoven during Dutch Design Week. Check out this Porcelain Screen by Akiko Yanagimoto & Moriko Kira.
