Microsoft Office Space – The Garage

These pictures are from Microsoft’s campus building which is a huge office complex. Though the complex features many distinct parts, one of the coolest is the Microsoft Garage. The Microsoft Garage is an office space with a twist, its not your conventional workspace. It is in fact the place where Microsoft encourages its free-form grass roots inventions. The space is called the Garage because it actually has two giant garage doors!

Yandex – Odessa Office Space

Yandex is a leading internet company in Russia, operating the most popular search engine and the most visited website in the country. They  generated an impressive 63.3% of all search traffic in Russia in 2011 and 59.4% in March 2012. The architects behind their new Odessa office space aimed to create a bright office which was extraordinary and memorable.  Odessa, being a maritime city, naturally lent itself to a subtle maritime theme – for example the light-diffusers are in the form of sails, and the walls are covered with copper.

Australian Real Estate Office Space

McAllister Alcock Architects is the Australian architectural firm behind this cool office space. The space is the office space of an Australian real estate firm, according to the architects:

Conversion of an existing warehouse to create a new St Kilda office for an established Real Estate Agency. The existing bland box was ‘re-skinned’ with a new facade of perforated pre-weathered ‘Coreten’ steel. A landscaped screen provides a green outlook and ‘signposts’ the building. Additional floor area was created by inserting mezzanine spaces within the existing building volume, while maintaining the existing lofty ceilings over the ‘public’ areas.

Portable Office Space

On the outside this trunk has an industrial and textured surface, resembling a WWII aircraft bomber in some ways. On the inside however it is a totally different experience, hiding away is a compact fully functional office. This seems perfect for individuals who work at home and are tight on space and want to keep the clutter of a conventional home office away. What’s especially cool is that its portable!

Unilever Office – London, Victoria Embankment

Unilever is one of the world’s leading suppliers of fast-moving consumer goods, their main sectors of operation are foods, home care and personal care. They recently had Kohn Pedersen Fox extensively refurbish their London office space. The London office was based in a historic building and so Unilever wanted to both modernise but also preserve the space. The London office is based on Victoria Embankment overlooking the River Thames, with the building originally being completed in 1932 and listed as a Grade II landmark structure in 1977. The building has served as the headquarters for Unilever since the early 1930s.

Extensive consultation was held with Unilever employees to develop a design to provide high-quality office space that responds to the company’s operational requirements while retaining important parts of the building to safeguard its historic character.

Camelot (National Lottery) – London Office Space

Camelot is the group behind the National Lottery, according to their website it is the most cost-effective lottery in Europe, with only around 4% of total revenue spent on operating costs. They recently refurbished their office space in London.

Camelot wanted their new office to feel fresh and creative, yet have a peaceful and calming effect on their busy staff. We know that different colours can have different effects on people, so we avoided bold, bright tones in open plan office areas, instead opting for neutral colours throughout. Browns and beiges inspire a calming and welcoming atmosphere, while creams and whites give a light and spacious effect.

A cluttered office rarely looks tidy, so we provided Camelot with a bespoke storage facilitiy which cleverly slots onto the end of each desk. Double benches in Camelot’s new restaurant provide a welcoming and sociable environment for staff during breaks.
