Healthcare Union Chicago Office

SEIU is an employee service union representing healthcare, child-care and nursing workers in the Midwest of the United States. They represent more than 85,000 members, and recently consolidated multiple offices into one HQ.  The office space is located in an old industrial property in Chicago, with approachability behind the whole office design philosophy.

Through the design of its office, SEIU Healthcare was trying to convey a culture of community and collaboration in fulfilling a mission to serve its members. The existing industrial building, with three intact floors after a fire destroyed the top four floors, was suitable from the standpoint that it had ample parking and was located near mass transit.

Pandora – Chicago Office

Pandora is a music streaming business based in the Tribune Towers in Chicago. The space was designed by the firm Eastlake studios, and is 8,000 square foot in size. As one would expect from a music based business, music is an integral part of the space and so streaming is available throughout (including the public spaces). The office is given a very chic look through the use of muted tones and pastels, add Herman Miller office furniture and funky lamps, and you have yourself one great office space!

Chicago Office Space

USG is a leading manufacturer of building materials for the construction and remodeling industries. Their new office HQ occupies 12 floors and houses 800 employees. Though the office looks like a typical corporate space it is well designed, reflecting the company’s innovation, energy and productivity. The office space was designed to meet the future needs of the business, providing a workplace to suit their dynamic and innovative industry.

The typical office floor includes conference rooms, an employee coffee bar, file and storage rooms, and print/copy stations. The conference center on the top floor acts as the main reception and conference center for the headquarters. Additional shared spaces in the facility include a large employee café/presentation space, records center, mail/reproduction center, and data center. The project is currently under review for LEED Silver certification.

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP – Chicago Office

Traditionally Law firms have had quite conservative and ‘stuffy’ office spaces, but things have changed in recent years – and for the better! Skadden is a large American corporate firm which was formed in 1948. Though the firm is American is has a presence around the world, including a considerable London office. This location is in Chicago and it is sleek and elegant, making use of white throughout the office space. Yet at the same time the copious use of wood gives the firm a traditional and trustworthy image. Can anyone say best of both worlds?

Green Building Concept – Chicago

The Paris based architectural firm  influx studio has designed a concept building it calls the ’algae green loop’. The design is aimed at being an algae retrofitting of the marina city towers in Chicago, USA.The concept aims to use the natural CO2 absorbing characteristics of flora to help decarbonise urban environments. The buildings recognise the growing need for sustainable cities, something which many of us realise will only become more and more pertinent as the world continues to ceaselessly develop. By retro-fitting and using pre-existing structures not only would they be creating a new environmentally friendly building design, but they would  also be working very realistically towards a zero footprint project.

Trump Tower – Chicago

The Trump Tower Chicago is a 98-story skyscraper in down-town Chicago. The building reaches a height of 1,389ft and was designed by Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Ownings and Merill. When finished in 2009 the building was the second tallest sky-scrapper in the United States, with first place going to the Willis Tower also in Chicago. The tower houses a 339 room hotel, a restaurant on the 16th floor and a mixture of retail and residential space. Until the Burj Khalifa was finished in October 2009, the Tower held the record for the highest residence above ground level. A very prestigious record indeed!

It is also well known for the fact that the winner of the first season of The Apprentice, a highly successful American reality show, was chosen to manage its construction.
