KiosKiosk

kiosk

This summer, KiosKiosk will bring a similar idea to the streets of London by offering a small kiosk space to startups selling ceramics, art, fashion and other creative products. At no cost to its temporary tenants.

Creative organisations, businesses or individuals ready to trade simply send in their details and explain why they’re a good candidate to fill the space. KiosKiosk’s founders note that, although the number of people enrolling in design courses in the UK increases each year, it’s difficult for creative businesses to find affordable retail space in locations with enough foot traffic to attract potential buyers. The initiative is backed by the London Sustainable Development Commission, working to promote creative independent shops instead of more dime-a-dozen souvenir stalls. The first KiosKiosk—an eyecatching design by Geraldine and Wayne Hemingway—will be set up outside London’s City Hall all summer, with plans to roll out the concept in other parts of the city and country at a later stage.

As well as encouraging startups and up-and-coming designers, the kiosk is a low-cost way for London to showcase the abundance of local creativity to visitors from around the world.

Neck Rest Cushion with Speakers

Whether you’re in your office or on a train or airplane, sometimes you need a little relaxing relief. A little soothing music and some neck support is just what the doctor ordered. No need to break out the headphones if you’ve got the Neck Rest Cushion with Speakers, an interesting and useful combination.

Available in green or pink this $14 cushion is described as “soft”. Now I can’t vouch for the softness level but I can say with near certainty that it’s more comfortable to be sitting with a cushion behind your neck than to not have one- soft or not. Alternatively if you wanted to blast some heavy metal do some headbanging, having a cushion to support you might be ideal.

Office POD

Being an OfficePOD user will bring a positive change to life. A chance to cut down on commuting, to be more productive, to spend more time at home but at the same time keep your work separate. A major way to getting a better balance into your life. The ability to work from home is a trend that is here to stay. Technology allows it, legislation permits it and employers often now encourage it.

Office POD

The developers of OfficePOD have come up with a new alternative work environment where costs, commuting and carbon emissions are cut. It’s an installable pod-shaped eco-friendly workplace that can be put anywhere – outside in a garden, in a train station, or in a busy work environment. David Forbes, OfficePOD Managing Director, explained how a majority of the materials were recycled or could be recycled and is the perfect alternative work environment for employers looking to go green. “To sit in one of these instead of an airconditioned office, the CO2 emisssions are cut by about 50 percent,” he said.

The OfficePOD is of optimum size (2.1m x 2.1m) and does not require planning consent in the greater majority of cases. It’s modular design enables speedy construction even in gardens with the most difficult access. The POD has been designed to provide appropriate security when empty or occupied. The external and internal look and feel of the space as well as the overall user experience is the product of an extensive design process.
